Behind The Lens

Location

Jökulsárlón, Iceland

Time

3 pm

Lighting

Lighting was too bright at 3 pm as the days are too long during summer in Iceland. I used a ND filter to cut down the light so that I could capture the beautiful lagoon colors.

Equipment

Canon EOS 550D Rebel T2i, 18-55 mm lens, some cheap ND filter.

Inspiration

I always loved beautiful landscapes. Shooting in Iceland was one of my dreams for a long time. The shades of blue in the silent glacial lagoon were mesmerizing to the eye which inspired me to take this photo.

Editing

I increased the brightness a little as the ND filter gave a darker image than expected.

In my camera bag

Camera, batteries, filters, lens, lens wipes, camera manual, cables, speedlite, sd cards, flash hood

Feedback

Prepare for all kinds of lighting as you might not be there during the golden hour all the time. Also don’t plan photography when you are visiting with family as you might not get enough time to get the right shot. For landscape photography carrying a sturdy tripod is a good choice.
