Behind The Lens

Location

Davis Mountain State Park, Texas

Time

6AM. Dawn

Lighting

West Texas is an area where the drier air from the west meets the moist air from the Gulf to produce exceptional sunrises.

Equipment

Sony A6000, 16-55mm kit lens. Tripod.

Inspiration

I was camping at Davis Mountain State Park and the night before we had a big thunderstorm. I got up early to walk the dogs and noticed that the sky was clearing. I was not sure I wanted to make the effort to climb the mountain for sunrise, but I grabbed my camera and hiked to the top of the mountain in time to capture this great sunrise shot.

Editing

Post Processed in Lightroom. Saturation and Clarity boost.

In my camera bag

I now use a Sony A6500 with the 18-105mm f4. This satisfies the majority of my shots but also carry a Rokinon 12mm/f2.8 and Sony 50mm/f2.8 macro. ND filters and Polarizers and usually bring along a couple of flashes with remote controller.

Feedback

Make the effort to get up for sunrise even if you don't feel like it. You will be rewarded more times than you are disappointed.
