This is an image of a nearby galaxy called NGC 5194. In the image you can clearly see the dark dust lanes in the spiral arms. This is where new stars and planets are formed. Similar to our own milky way galaxy, we would be situated about two thirds away from the centre. Makes you realise just how small we really are doesn't it?
