Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at Riseholme college campus in Lincolnshire at the end of a long wedding..

Time

Approximately the photo was taken at 9pm after the first dance had taken place and much alcohol had been had by the wedding party..

Lighting

I wanted to achieve a dramatic back lit symmetrical image.. The hall itself had a great look but was not lit at all so making it very difficult. I had a speed light placed behind the couple and one as a fill behind me. I was at quite a high iso around 800 as I remember it. I had the backlight set quite high as I wanted the focus to be on the couple and for them to stand out from the amazing building surrounding them and for their shadows to fling out in front..

Equipment

I shoot with a nikon d750, great for bringing back those shadows... I used a nikon 16-35 lens at f5.6.. This was shot on a tripod so I could line up the shot and then get the couple to relax and not be thinking about me behind the camera..

Inspiration

I love epic images.. Real grandeur.. The hall itself had such an amazing look and really wanted to have the couple in front lookong like the Lord and lady of the manor..

Editing

I had to bring back the shadows a bit and then deepen some blacks in the image.. One issue I had is I wanted a symmetrical look and the windows had curtains and the like that were not even so ai had to do a bit of cloning to even up the curtains and also the chimneys..

In my camera bag

I shoot with a nikon d750 and a d610 with a 70-200, 24-70, sigma art 24mm and a 16-35. I carry 2 nikon speedlights, and 2 godox ad200 with portable modifiers and godox radio triggers... A manfrotto tripod and a mefoto tripod helps to set up the camera and lots of light stands as well..

Feedback

Think about the couple, get them to relax and enjoy each other... everything else should be easy...
