Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured on a back road in Central West NSW during the drought. I was taking a different route to the one I normally drive and this lonely but abandoned farmhouse caught my eye.

Time

It was late morning but already storm clouds were starting to gather with the unfulfilled promise of rain.

Lighting

The dark gathering clouds with shafts of light highlighting the old house immediately captured my attention. Mother Nature often provides the best light for the subject.

Equipment

This was shot on my Nikon D7000 18-105mm lens. F10 ISO 200 1/500 sec. I used a fence post as my tripod.

Inspiration

As we rounded the bend the light hitting this abandoned farmhouse was just perfect. Sometimes you just have to stop and take the photo as you may never get this chance again.

Editing

I converted to black and white, enhanced the contrast and increased the vignette to increase the moodiness of the image and really focus in on the farmhouse, all in Lightroom

In my camera bag

I usually have 3 or 4 lenses in my bag along with my D7000. You never know what will inspire you and I like or be ready for anything!

Feedback

Look around you. Sometimes the things you see regularly can be changed in an instant with the weather and light.
