Behind The Lens
Location
I found the leaf near my home. It was mostly weathered away with just its vasculature (veins) intact. I photographed the leaf in front of my computer screen so that it was backlighted with a featureless white background. Then using photo editing software, I individually filled the spaces between the leaf veins with color. The color scheme I finally settled on was the third I tried.Time
Given that all of the photography occurred indoors, the time of day was not a factor in this case.Lighting
As I indicated above, the skeleton of the leaf was captured by placing it in front of blank white computer screen.Equipment
The leaf image was captured using a Panasonic Lumix fitted with a macro lens. The camera was hand held.Inspiration
From start to finish, composition of the image was an exploratory exercise. I would never have thought of any of doing any of it if I hadn't found the leaf on the ground to begin with.Editing
The post-processing of the photo entailed filling in the individual cells outlined by the leaf's veins with pure color. It took about three attempts before I happened upon a color scheme that I liked. In my camera bag
Ordinarily, the only equipment I have with me when I am out and about is my camera. I do possess a macro lens and a tripod, but don't usually have them with me unless I have the specific intent of photographing something that requires one or the other (or both).Feedback
My only advice would be to not be afraid of photo editing software. The manipulation of color is not something I ordinarily do. But, I wouldn't have done it at all if I hadn't had the software installed on my laptop already.
