Behind The Lens

Location

I took this on Rapahoe Beach in the ruggard West Coast of the South Island in New Zealand.

Time

It was dusk, the sun was slowly going down and we chased it along the beach as it set.

Lighting

The golden hour is one of my favorite natural lighting to play with, this photo was taken on a point and shoot beginner camera but I was so happy with how the silhouettes of the cliffs and the slight misty fog you can see in the distance.

Equipment

It was a Nikon point and shoot camera. This was one of my first photos that gave me the photography bug. I now use a Pentax K30, which still isn't the greatest but it does the trick.

Inspiration

My two best friends and I and taken a trip from Christchurch to the west coast, we decided to get up and watch the sun rise at New Brighton beach on the edge of the east coast, and chased the sun over the Alps and into the west coast where we set up camp and watched the sun set contemplating what the new year would bring us all. I wanted to capture a moment that I could keep forever and look back on to remind myself that life is beautiful.

Editing

No this is all natural.

In my camera bag

I don't have a lot, I have a chronic pain condition which prevents me from working a normal job so camera equipment is way out of my budget unfortunately.

Feedback

Timing. Especially if you're going for a golden hour sunset photo, I found that if the sun was to high still, it made a flare and munted the picture, but as it lower the lighting was easier to work with. I'm not sure how it is for better cameras, there's probably more control than a point and shoot.
