I have recently gotten into Watercolor painting an I made one similar to this. I might try again and use this as reference to get a more realistic look and get the proportions right. Great shot!

That's fascinating to hear, I'd love to see the artwork when it's finished. Thank you for the compliment:)

Warmth, soft sensuality, no nudity needed, carefully planned composition with contrast in the background. Excellent in every way. Enjoyed the BTL story too. :)

Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at Pipewell Hall, nr Corby in Northants. It's a privately owned 17th century country house that is lived in but hired out for weddings, TV programmes and large scale photo shoots. I'd shot at Pipewell Hall on several occasions and the new the place well.

Time

I'm sure this was taken during the afternoon. We'd worked outside in the morning and moved indoors to try some boudoir shots. The other bedrooms in the house were quite elaborate but I really liked the simple decor in here. The window and symmetry of twin beds and those lamps really helped frame my subject. I am so pleased I remembered to switch those lamps on too.

Lighting

The lighting was natural save for those two lamps which really create a warm and cosy feeling - just what I wanted.

Equipment

Nikon D5300, probably with 18-140mm lens

Inspiration

No specific inspiration behind this shot (sorry) other than wanting to practice boudoir and create something quite sensual without nudity. I'd created a mood board, by physically cutting and pasting a number of images on to a poster board. I showed it to the model who was able to better understand what I was trying to achieve.

Editing

My editing skills were very basic so there would have been a minor adjustment to exposure but that would have been it!

In my camera bag

My Nikon D5300, 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses. A small reflector, cleaning cloth and remote shutter release. Spare cards and batteries.

Feedback

I'm not very good at editing and prefer to get as much right before pressing the shutter release as possible. Check the surroundings - what's in the background? Look at the position of hands and feet. Check with the naked eye then check through the viewfinder. Does everything look aesthetically pleasing. Make sure there is nothing to distract the viewer from the main subject.
