Location
Like the photo suggests, I took this on the edge of Washington state - Ocean Shores, WA going out into the Pacific Ocean.Time
This was right at sunset - Not just enough into dusk to tell the day was coming to a close but still enough light to get that last bit of swimming in.Lighting
This is all natural light. It was the perfect time with the right amount of cloud cover for the sun to not completely overpower the shot.Equipment
I had my Nikon D3000 and I think the kit lens. This photo is from when I was first starting out, so I didn't really have a lot of accessories. Just goes to show that you don't need fancy equipment to take great photos!Inspiration
To be honest, my inspiration wasn't really all that inspiring - When I was starting out I just really loved taking photos of sunsets. I have copius amounts of sunset photos from various beaches around Washington. It's like when you first learn how to do a new thing, that's the only thing you do for a bit. I had to give myself space to grow out of just doing sunset photos. And don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with just taking sunset photos if that's what you want to do! I just wanted to grow myself beyond that.Editing
Just a bit of contrast work - I keep things really simple with my editing and usually only mess with exposure or contrast. In my camera bag
I've updated to a Nikon D5300, so I have that and just my 18-105 lens if I want to travel light, but if I'm going out to take photos I'll pack those plus my 30mm prime lens, a lens cloth, and a protein bar. I get hangry.Feedback
My favorite thing to do for photos is to look real high or look real low - I don't mind getting dirty so I like just getting right on the ground to get shots from an ant's point of view, and I'm pretty short so I have to look up to talk to most people anyways, which leads me to just looking up at the sky more times than not. Experiment with different angles!
