Sunset Over Troy

behind the lens badge

I took this out of my 12th floor apt window. I loved the streak the sun made, like a last ray trying to get through.

Behind The Lens

Location

Clawson, Michigan. From the window of my 12th floor apartment.

Time

About 7:30p

Lighting

Natural light.

Equipment

I used a Jason Wu digital, direct to computer camera. Hand held, no flash. Even when I had a 35mm, I tried not to use flash and never used a tripod, even with long lenses. Was able to get perfect pictures without it. Plus no room in clubs for a tripod.

Inspiration

I have a page on Pinterest where I load pictures of the sky that I take out my window. Clouds, colors, fascinate me. I loved the last sun streak reaching out and had to get a picture of it.

Editing

no

In my camera bag

I don't have a bag. In the 1960s and 1970s, I used...first...an instamatic, then upgraded to a 35mm Yashika. I photographed rock groups. I have been featured in 3 Who publications in the past 12 months. This is the first time I have developed an interest in something other than people. My father was a portrait photographer and I inherited my 'eye' from him.

Feedback

Basically, you have to be in the right place at the right time to get photos of the sky. I glance out often to see what it happening. Watch for interesting cloud formations. Zoom for better effect on some of them. Watch for interesting colors...black in one area and bright blue in another. Capture both to show rain and sun in two different areas. Esp watch for rainbows.
