Location
This image was shot in an old historic building in the French Quarter, New Orleans. seeing this beautiful old window and the light coming through. I knew it would be perfect to capture the grace and beauty of the dancer, as well as, the historic beauty of the old building.Time
I shot this image around 5:00 p.m. cst. It was getting close to golden hour, which is my favorite time to shoot, and the light and shadows coming through the old window were absolute perfection.Lighting
The lighting in this image is everything. I loved the way the light was illuminating the dancer's face and especially her beautiful light blue eyes. Of course you can't see the color of her eyes, but light the on her face allows you to see and draw the conclusion that they are a lighter color.Equipment
The image was shot with the Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens.Inspiration
I was looking for a place to take the dancer's pictures that was full of character and light. This old historic building was perfect and inspired this image.Editing
Very little post processing was needed for this image. I did tweak the highlights a little and bumped up the contrast a little. And of course brought the saturation down to zero.In my camera bag
I always carry 3-4 extra camera batteries, my Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, Canon 85mm f/1.2L II, Canon 50mm 1.2, Canon 135mm f/2.0, Canon 200mm f/2.0, multiple CF Cards, Speedlite flash, defuser, and multiple lens filters.Feedback
Bring your camera everywhere. You just never know when and where inspiration will be found. Explore local areas, take walks and look at everything with new eyes. Light is everything and looking for the best light and more importantly using that light is how you will get a great shot.
