Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on opening day at historic Saratoga racetrack. Every year, trainer Todd Pletcher brings his best 2 year-olds to the Summer meet.

Time

Early bird special! This photo was taken shortly after the morning workouts, followed by a cool bathing. The stable is ready for their morning breakfast after cooling out and groomed.

Lighting

Important to walk shed row of the backstretch and capture the stalls with the light behind me.

Equipment

Nikon D90 18-200mm VR. ll lens

Inspiration

Pletcher is a Hall of Fame trainer! Owners give him the best of the best horses. Since Master Plan was tapping with the broom handles, I thought it was a perfect fit to "TAP" (Todd A. Pletcher)

Editing

No post processing, just cropping and straightening.

In my camera bag

I don't carry a bag.

Feedback

You need to be there at a certain time of the day. Please, do not disturb the thoroughbreds with a flash or shoot while they are eating or being attended to. These are valuable racehorses. Respect the barn and the staff, especially the horses.
