I am lucky enough to have this view from home! I got up early one morning to watch the sunrise over Lake Victoria. It was a cool morning so there was a layer of mist over the swamp. As the sun climbed higher in the sky the beams coming through the clouds in combination with the shadows of trees in the mist just made it a magical moment! This is the beauty of Uganda! Location
The photo was taken in Uganda, from my balcony over looking Lake Victoria. Uganda is also known as "The Pearl of Africa" and this picture embodies that for me totally.Time
This picture was taken at sunrise at around 6 in the morning. I was up long before the sun had risen over the hills across the lake, snapping away constantly. It wasn't until the sun had risen up a little higher, that the lake and swamp was bathed in golden light which made the scene take on this magical appearance. The early morning mist was great as it accentuated the beams and shadows coming through the trees.Lighting
The golden hour always brings about great lighting. Whether its at sunset or sunrise the light has a way of making scenes look surreal and magical. Its always worth the wait and worth taking the time to watch the sun rise as the light changes, so does the picture.Equipment
This picture was shot with a Canon EOS REBEL T2i and a 17-135mm lens with a polarised filter attached to it.Inspiration
We had watched a couple of sunrises during our trip, but i hadn't brought my camera up to take any pictures with. The sunrises were always great. With the light slowly climbing into the sky and the sounds of the dawn chorus it was always a moment to lose your self in. Although it gets quite hot in the day, the mornings would always be cool and damp. This meant that there was mist which would form over the swamp and the forest creating an image of untouched beauty which i told my self i had to capture.Editing
I normally do a bit of post-processing to my photos in Light Room. I try to keep things simple and only play with the settings a bit in order to make the picture jump out at you with out looking like its been over edited. For this particular image i played with the highlights and shadows. Bringing the highlights way down to dim the background and taking the shadows up to bring out the foreground. In my camera bag
My camera bag goes with me where ever i am since i love to find the spontaneous beauty around us all the time. I always have my T2i with several different lenses; a Tokina 10-17mm wide angle, a 17-135mm lens with polarised filter, a 100mm macro lens (i love to shoot the small life around as well as the big) and a 75-300mm which is what i use to shoot nature with.Feedback
I would have to say, "take your time". Get up nice and early before the sun has risen and get to your position. Then its all about watching the world wake up in front of you. The lighting and scene can change so much in a short period of time. One amazing scene will evolve into another with the light getting higher and the shadows getting shorter.
