Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Gastown, Vancouver on a rainy evening. The street lights glowing on the shiny street add lighting to the photo. The bicycle conveniently added some framing fro the shot

Time

It was early evening in the springtime just after sunset.

Lighting

It's all natural lighting but the wet street, the fairy lights the car headlamps and street lights all helped create the effect

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark 2 with 50mm f1.4 usb. Shot at F3.5 for .5 second on my tripod

Inspiration

A group of photographers went out on a walk in this area to take some photos, especially of the street art which is found in this area

Editing

I used Lightroom and lowered the highlights to get rid of some of the blown out lights, I upped the shadows to bring out detail and upped the clarity slightly. That's all I did to it

In my camera bag

I carry my 5d mark 2 and a range of lenses (17-40, 50, 24-105, 70-200). I use a Benro carbon fibre tripod. I have ND filters I am learning to use (Cokin).

Feedback

Rainy nights are good in tourist areas because there are less people wandering into your frame. A tripod is essential. The bicycle I believe added a lot to the image.
