This little Eastern Screech Owl was a bit of a celebrity a few years ago. He was routinely seen in his nest hole in a tree right adjacent to Rt. 1A on New Hampshire's coastal road. It seemed every wildlife photographer in the northeast paid him a visit. I'm always amazed at just how perfectly their plumage blends them into their habitat. If they are sitting still and you don't look very closely you won't see them. I waited for several hours on a windy day in well below freezing temperatures hoping he'd open his eyes, which he did for about two seconds then he disappeared back into his nest hole not to be seen again that day,
