Location
This photo was taken at Lake Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve, in the Trans-Himalayan biogeographic region in India. This is at an altitude of ~4500m above sea level, and due to poor accessibility is not frequented by many visitors. However, due to an incredible landscape, it attracts serious photographers. We reached here after a 6 hour road journey through the mountains from the small town of Leh and stayed overnight in tents.Time
This photo was taken at about 7pm in the month of July. I was at the lake with a bunch of other photographers since 4 in the evening. We were getting a little disappointed as the skies were very flat and cloudy with light drizzles. However just as we were preparing to leave, the light turned and I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen with unreal colors in the sky..The constant shifts of lights and colors lasted about 15-20 minutes and it was better than any show that I've seen..Lighting
This was nature at its best lighting up the sky with colors like I'd never experienced beforeEquipment
I took the photo with Canon 70D using a 24-105L f/4 lens. This photo was taken handheld.Inspiration
I was taking pictures of the lake when I turned around to see other photographers all engrossed in capturing the landscape. The silhouettes of the photographers against the amazingly colored skies was just too good to resist!Editing
Yes, the RAW file was processed in Lightroom for white balance, minor cropping/angle correction and other basics (highlights, shadows, contrast)In my camera bag
Besides my Canon 70D, my bag has a 24-105 L f/4 lens (which is typically my go to lens), a Canon 10-18 for landscapes, 50mm f/1.4 for portraits, 24mm f/2.8 and a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. Besides, I carry some filters (ND, Grad ND, Polarizers), a Benro IT-25 tripod, a Trigger Trap device and a spare battery.Feedback
Dawn and dusk offer some of the best times to capture landscapes. Plan well, be at the location early and have patience - sometimes you're lucky to have amazing skies and sometimes not. Keep your eyes open - sometimes you get amazing photos not from the main source of interest but around it (in this case photographers capturing the lake).
