Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a butterfly garden in McKinney, Texas. The average high temperature for this day in July in Texas is 95, but on this particular day, the high was only 73. It was a beautiful day to get outside and enjoy the weather - although the humidity was kind of high.

Time

It was taken mid-day - around lunchtime.

Lighting

It was overcast, which made for more even lighting.

Equipment

It was taken on a Canon EOS Rebel T3.

Inspiration

A low 70's day in July just begs for you to come outside and enjoy nature. So, I did and got this beautiful shot and several others as well.

Editing

I like to let the beauty of nature speak for itself. Sometimes I will adjust the exposure if needed and crop to zone in on the focus of the picture.

In my camera bag

I carry a soft cloth to keep my lens clean and extra batteries - although when I took this picture, I only had 1 battery.

Feedback

My advice for catching a great shot of any insect is to shoot as many as possible in order to capture the perfect one! Sometimes it requires some waiting. I like to use the flower close-up setting to get crisp focus. I also like to use the action setting to take several pictures in a row if the insect won't be still. I am an amateur photographer and I love taking pictures! Thank you for considering this picture for a feature on your blog.
