Behind The Lens

Location

The photo is taken in Dalen, Telemark, Norway. The jays gather to eat , and so does the sparrowhawk. It is like a theater play. The jays gather. The hawk attacks. The jays disappears ... only to reappear after a short time . The hawk attacks .....

Time

This is taken early morning. To get this kind of photos you hide while it's still dark ... and stay there until it's dark again.

Lighting

In these situations you depend on natural light of course.

Equipment

This is taken with a Canon 7D with a 100-400mm lens. Tripod is a must. These birds are FAST. 1/2000 sec - f/4.5 _ ISO 800

Inspiration

We spent two days here , to photograph these birds, eagles, black-throated divers , beavers etc. Not much sleep but fantastic experience.

Editing

I take all my photoes in RAW and then post-process in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I use the Canon for most of my photography but I also have an Olympic (Stylus) for traveling, street-photoes etc.

Feedback

These are all wild animals (birds) but to get this kind of photo in the wild - without planning - I guess would be pure luck. My photos are taken in an area where there are build covers and where the birds are fed - so you know there will be some action.
