Behind The Lens

Location

This is a wonderful example of the elements; the impact sun has on wood. I took this photo on the Oregon Coast, near Cape Perpetua campground. I love texture and the outdoors and this photo is a perfect balance of both. Anytime I went somewhere my mother would say, "Take some pictures to share with me." I tried my best.

Time

It was pretty bright throughout the day but I believe this was shot in the early afternoon if I recall correctly.

Lighting

This is all natural light. My objective in this picture was to capture as much of the nuance the shadow and light brought to the peaks and valleys of the wood.

Equipment

This photo was shot on a Sony HD AVCHD Handycam Hybrid. I used no mounting equipment, just a steady hand.

Inspiration

When I travel I like to see the things that aren't really seen, though they are around us everywhere. Because this was just a post on a fence, nobody would think twice to look at it but beauty can be found anywhere which is why it demanded I take its picture.

Editing

I didn't do any post processing to this photo. Like almost all of my work, what you see is what you get.

In my camera bag

I have a pretty meager collection of equipment to choose from, just my Sony Handycam. I would say my best piece of equipment would be my eyes, without them I could not have seen any of the beauty I try to capture.

Feedback

For photos like this one, I recommend taking several at different times of a sunny day so the shadows will be different. Depth and contrast is what I was looking for so days without any sun or an overcast day will yield lackluster results.
