The spider was photographed in my kitchen window indoors.Time
In the afternoon inside in kitchen window.Lighting
There was light coming through the window but was only providing a back light. I therefore used my Canon Speedlight 430EX ll on TTL. Depending on the lens used you may be very close to subject so I use white paper or reflectors to bounce on camera flash light on subject.Equipment
Canon 60D camera hand held. Lens Zukio 50mm from OM10 film camera on bellows and tubes. 160/f11Inspiration
I often wonder about the garden photographing insects on micro. I have just started to experiment with flash. First to get in more light, freeze the subject more.Editing
Photoshop auto contrast and sharpen once only. I always shoot in highest resolution to allow any cropping in postIn my camera bag
I would for general all round use take my 60D, spare card and battery. I would have the Sigma 18-250mm lens. With this lens I can get a reasonable micro on all zoom ranges as well as landscapes or wide angle shots. I have the Canon 24 - 105 'L' glass. Just bought the Tamron 150 - 600mm zoom a great lens I can recommend.Feedback
If you have an DSLR you can try old film camera lenses which can be bought cheap. I have a 135mm manual lens which I use with extension tubes for micro. . This lens cost me £4 to buy in swap shop. I even use an old enlarger lens on bellows for micro 105mm. Don't try to get too close in order preserve DOF which is very shallow. Lot's of light in order to use smaller F stops for better DOF and to keep your ISO speed down which I try to keep below 800 ISO.
