Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during my very first safari in South Africa in the Entabeni game reserve.

Time

This picture was taken just after sunset, which gives it it's warm colors.

Lighting

Being just after sunset gives a warm color palette to the image.

Equipment

This was shot using a Nikon D800 using the 70-300mm lens handheld.

Inspiration

This beautiful lion was posing as if he knew he was asking to be photographed.

Editing

I did some post processing in adobe Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Nikon full frame in my bag along with the small voïgtlander 40mm which is perfect for traveling. Although for this trip I brought my tele zoom lens to capture wildlife. I also always have my Hasselblad with me to shoot some portraits and landscapes on film.

Feedback

You need some patience and luck in capturing wildlife photo's, being my first safari I was extremely lucky. If you didn't get your picture the first time, try again. The best chances of wildlife spotting are at dusk and dawn which also gives the best lightning.
