Location
This particular photo was taken in my apartment in Zebbiegh, Malta. It was part of a photo session done to expand both photographer and model portfolios. I am self taught and very recently started taking studio shots.Time
It was taken around 4 in the afternoon next to a balcony on the left side of the subjectLighting
For this setup I worked to get a side light using a soft-box with one speed-light together with the lighting coming from the balcony. It is very soft light to help emphasize a mood set by the model's story and her tattoo which was made during her recent honeymoon and the wedding ring.Equipment
It was made using a 35mm fujinon lens on a fuji x-pro1 with a 60cm soft box and one speed-light at half power.Inspiration
This particular photo was inspired by what the subject was going through during that period of time in her life. We both wanted something different and meaningful regarding marriage and how the beautiful and the moody intertwine together to form an image of one's self. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but both part of the experience that is marriage.Editing
For post processing the emphasis was on setting the mood and the contrasting elements of the image which are the tattoo, the ring, the expression on the face and the left side leading to the model's pose. Tone curve adjustments, grain, dodge and burn were used.In my camera bag
For travel I usually pack two lenses, the 35mm 1.4 xf and the 60mm xf fujinons together with the fuji x-pro 1. Together with those are two sd cards, 3 batteries, speed light with remote trigger, reflector, tripod and laptop together with charger :)Feedback
I am still learning beauty photography but after a few sessions my advice would be to take your theme and help make it something unique with the model you are working with. Constantly speaking and thinking with them helps both to be in sync on what the shoot is about and some amazing in between poses shots come to life. They are the most natural and will try and aim in getting more of those in the future. It always amazes me how different photos look when the model is at ease and knows what you would like to achieve.
