This image was taken on Newgale beach, Pembrokeshire. I`m a keen amateur landscape photographer, just enjoying being out with my camera as much as work allows!Time
Being on the west coast of Wales the sunsets are beautiful, we enjoyed one pretty much every evening of our holidays. This evening was no different, the difference was that the tide was right out so we could all get onto the sand and play. Taken on the 14th August, 2016 at 8:41pm.Lighting
The sky and reflections on the beach were stunning, the children had been playing and the scene was wonderful so I quickly set up the tripod and camera to try and capture the image before the evening light disappearedEquipment
This was shot using a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 lens, on a Vivitar tripod.Inspiration
I`d taken a few shots of the children playing on the beach and they`d come out well, silhouetted against the evening sky. I thought I`d give a "selfie" a go with them, and managed to convince them to stand still long enough while listening to the timer on the camera to count down! It`s one of our favourite beaches, having been there for the past few years and this has turned out to be one of my all time favourite shots, one that will remind us all of a wonderful summer holidayEditing
I processed the raw file to bring out the detail in the sky, sharpen the silhouettes and tweak the colours as they didn`t do the scene we all enjoyed justiceIn my camera bag
I love taking landscape images so I don`t go anywhere without my Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5. I`ve recently bought a new camera body, a Nikon D7100 which I love - am getting great detail in low light settings. I also have a Nikon 18-105mm, bought for when I`m out and about and don`t want to keep switching lenses all the time - can get wide angle landscapes and good quality close up shots. It`s also a great lens to capture the children playing around, shots which I love taking just as much as landscapes!Feedback
I hadn`t planned to take this image, but the opportunity arose and am so glad I took it! I pretty much always plan a photography trip - checking the weather, sunset/sunrise times at my chosen location - but I also like to be ready to change my plans when I get there.
