Location
This photo was taken in bedroom with beautiful sunlight streaming through the window.Time
This photo was taken mid morning and I remember it was overcast outside so the light was soft but clean. Jessica was preparing for the Miss Universe competition she was one the sweetest girls I've ever had the privilege of working with. She was bright eyed fresh and full of hope.Lighting
The window in the bedroom was like a huge softbox and because it was overcast outside the lighting was delicate and gentle. The light gave Jessica a glow and she looked so fresh and clean.Equipment
The room was well lit so I didn't need any complicated equipment just my camera and natural light. I didn't use a tripod as I wanted to be able to move around the room to capture her. I used a 50mm lens which I usually use for newborns and babies. I find it gives me a very sharp and crisp photo when doing portraits.Inspiration
Jessica's beauty is what inspired me not only is she stunning to look at but she is intelligent and kind. I got inspired by her personal and tragic journey and willingness to remain positive and spread goodwill. She is an extraordinary young woman. I love photography for the very reason you can envoke an emotional response when you view it.Editing
Obviously I changed the photo to a black & white. I usually lighten the image and darken the blacks to add contrast and make a crisp and more striking image. When I process my images I don't follow any sort of formula I follow my instincts. The end result is always based on what I find visually pleasing hopefully others like it too.In my camera bag
I keep all the normal items a photographer would use, a range of different size lenses, filters, reflectors, tripod, extra batteries, extra SD cards sometimes I carry a whole backdrop system with soft boxes but I prefer working on location with natural lighting and surrounds.Feedback
Find a space that has a nice big window for natural light, be able to use your camera manually and play around with exposures as all photographers know it's all about the light! Practice makes progress even after years of experimenting and learning my craft I'm still learning.
