Location
This photo of the girl falling from the cliffs was taken in studio on a black background. The other shots were taken at various locations and then stitched together in post.Time
This photo of the girl falling from the cliff was taken during the day in studio. The images that are stitched together behind her were taken towards the later part of the afternoon.Lighting
The lighting for this shot is a simple 3 lights setup in studio. I used two grid lights and a key light in front.Equipment
I used a Nikon D800 with 3 elinchrom strobes, we also used a shooting table for her to lay on and used a fan to blow her hair.Inspiration
I wanted something dreamy. I wanted to get the effect of falling but floating- so she is falling but also floating. I wanted there to be the undertone of just because you fall does not mean you can't rise again.Editing
Yes, quite a bit of post processing. The body was stitched in 3 different pieces with hair, dress, and then the torso. I shot the dress pieces blowing in studio in many shots so I could process in PS later and turn into a flower. The hair and body were shot all seperate too as not to be too taxing on the model. I then worked on her first and placed and positioned her into the other pieces of the background and then worked on blending them all together. In my camera bag
I also have my nikon, two batteries, a pen and paper, and two lenses. The lens selection varies depending on where I am going but I always have two.Feedback
Patience and write everything down before you shoot. Go over it in your head so you don't miss anything. You don't want the shoot to happen and realize you forgot to shoot "just the hair" blowing- or extra shots of "just the fabric floating". Write your shoot down (or draw it, i'm just not artistic) ,run through the shoot in your head before the shoot, even pre shoot it quickly to test light and feel if you have time and opportunity so the day of the shoot goes smoothly and you don't miss a beat:)
