Location
This photo was taken at Travers Reservoir in Southern Alberta, Canada.Time
This photo was taken at 11:40pm.Lighting
Seeing lightning and aurora at the same time is quite rare and a huge bonus. My focus was on the aurora, with the lightning just happening at that time.Equipment
I use a Canon 5D3 camera with a Canon 24 - 70mm lens. Manfrotto 055PROB Black tripod. Manfrotto 486RC2 Ball head, No flash.Inspiration
Night photography, especially auroras, are my passion. I live near the reservoir, so light pollution is not a concern. I am a member of the Alberta Aurora Chasers (a FB Group - almost 27000 members). Anytime the "lights" --&bt; aurora are out, I am there to document it. Sometimes you get lucky and there is some lightning happening!Editing
I always take pictures in RAW, so they have to be converted to .Jpg. I might have adjusted the Level in PS. Not much more than that was done to the picture. In my camera bag
It depends what I am going after - If I am looking to take pictures of wildlife, I have a Canon 7D2 with a Canon 100-400mm. If I am taking night photography pictures, I have my Canon 5D3 and one of my wide angle lenses - Canon 14 mm f2.8, Canon 24 mm f1.4 or the Brick (Canon 24 - 70 mm f2.8). I usually have my tripod in the car. Also I carry a Canon remote release. My flash is seldom used. Extra batteries, cards, mounting brackets for ball heads.Feedback
Follow your passion! Night photography is a very satisfying! To be standing under the stars, listening to the odd coyote - awesome! Join a group that can help you with getting your equipment needs. Also try to go out at night with a group, it's safer that way.
