It's nice to see that this lake still exists. I understand that the larger one at the front has been turned into a concrete parade ground or something. An amazing place. Sadly, without a resident Dalai Lama a kind of museum.

I had tried three other times to get into Tibet, but each time China closed the boarder just before I was due to go. Then that October, I thought I would try it again. We were told that it was closed but would probably reopen after the 7th. So three of us decided to make a group and hope that they actually did open up. Yes! We got in! There were three Americans making a 10 day trip into Tibet. We took the train, which is 40 hours. It is the train that goes through the highest altitude on the planet. It has oxygen on it. The scenery was beyond amazing. I just wish I hadn't had such a splitting headache. We went to the Patala Palace on the 2nd day in Lhasa. Lhasa sits just under 4000 meters, so most of the time we dodn't have many altitude problem. But we were having problems sleeping, panting when we exercised and we were drinking water by the gallons. We were told we wouldn't be able to go anywhere without our guide, but when we got there that turned out not to be true. We went through the Palace by ourselves. This picture was taken after we had gotten through the complex and at the back is the lake and a park. I was totally inchanted with the country and the people.Time
It was probably between 3 to 5 pm. One thing to remember about Chine is that everyone is on Beijing time. So even though it should be 3 hours different, its the same as eastern China. So the time messes with your brain the same was the altitude does.Lighting
In the fall, late afternoon is always amazing. The skies were so blue and the light so bright, that all the photos from Tibet are amazing.Equipment

Going to Tibet in October gives you bright blue skies and beautiful fall colors. But realize most of Tibet doesn't have many trees.
