Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken after a long night walk around Paris when 4 friends of mine and myself get lost in this wonderful city. Somehow we reached the Louvre Museum and after taking those silly pictures where it seems you are holding the pyramid I started to play with my camera to end up with this.

Time

It was about 00:00 AM, so there was not enough light to take this picture properly without a tripod. Exactly what happened to me. Being careful to not wet my camera I sat down on the floor and put my camera at the edge of the fountains that surround the pyramid.

Lighting

Make sure that know how do you want your photo. F-stops, I S O and shutter are really important for any kind of picture but when we are talking about night photography you have to be careful with the characteristics and set up you use. In my humble opinion, lighting is what makes a photo special.

Equipment

This picture was shot with a Canon SX710 HS in manual set up using the timer to avoid a blurry image, with no flash nor tripod.

Inspiration

I think that I´m always looking for details, to look things upside down. I didn´t want to have an "ordinary" photo (understanding by ordinary not caring about setting and just point and shoot). and I´ve always enjoyed pictures that play with perspectives and reflection. Is amazing how that kind of things can give that special "je ne sais quoi" to our photos.

Editing

I don´t really like to make bid changes to my photos, they disturb too much reality and there is a point where you cannot distinguish what is real anymore. I have just changed a little bit the saturation, contrast and blacks and whites.

In my camera bag

Normally I always have with me my Canon SX710 HS (little but though) accompanied with 1 extra SD card and 1 extra battery just in case I run out and a monkey, something that can be very useful if you need to have a sharp image.

Feedback

Concerning night photography I will tell you to find the perfect balance between the settings of your camera. I S O, shutter, and f-stops can make your picture look stunning or just pretty basic. But my advice would be just PLAY with your camera. Discover what possibilities do you have and which is your style. Everyone likes different kinds of looks and to enjoy photography you have to discover yours.
