Falklands war 1982 commemoration.
Action Man was my favourite childhood toy and what got me into photography, needing a more family friendly pastime after the children were born. I 'collected' initially, but fed up with just looking at them on the shelves, sought to rekindle some of the childhood fun, albeit from an adult's perspective and several decades of military service.
Eight years old at the time of the Falklands war, I had recreated the battles seen on TV on the living room carpet with my action men. In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the conflict, I sought to recreate of some of the iconic images through the eyes of that eight year old child, but from an adult perspective and produce a book to raise fund for Help4Heroes and Combat Stress. Sadly, the South Atlantic Medal Association did not appreciate the perspective and had rather a sense of humour failure so the initiative was dropped.

Thanks Squig, most kind and appreciated. Action Man was what got me into photography. My favourite childhood toy and needed a more family friendly hobby when the kids were born. I 'collected' initially and then got fed up with just looking at them on the shelves and wanted to have some fun. That's correct Mark, I sought to re-create a number of the iconic images from the conflict.

This is excellent, this was my cousins platoon in the Falklands.....loving the recreations, never had an Action Man myself which always caused jealosy of friends, missed the Falklands by a year due to age!

Thanks Salt, much appreciated and indeed your cousins service. Sorry you missed out, almost deployed three times myself, I missed out each time for bizarre reasons and will take the regret to my grave. Hard to understand for those who haven't worn the uniform. It's not the 'want of war', rather simply proving to oneself and ones mates that you can do the immensely difficult job for which you have trained for so hard and so long.
