Location
This photo was captured along a hiking trail in the Southeastern Forets Des Pines in Haiti. This particular location is right in the midst of an active project to reforest the nation of Haiti; a goal that could help to provide longstanding economic and social impact to the nation as a whole.Time
Our crew had just stopped for lunch, after completing a 12 mile leg of our hike in the morning. We had anticipated Haiti to be a warm place, but as we found ourself up in the mountains, we were met with a surprisingly cool atmosphere. Halfway through out lunch break, this dense blanket of fog began to quickly envelop the wooded area that we had just left behind. It was eery and mysterious, and demanded a photo!Lighting
Nothing to share here... Light was all natural, with no added elements beyond the Haitian sunlight!Equipment
As the photographer and videographer for my teams trip through Haiti, I carried a Sony a7sii and Sony 28-135 FE-PZ Cine lens.Inspiration
This portrait of Haiti is so different from what many would think of. I wanted to present to the world a different perspective, one that recognizes Haiti as this blossoming place that calls out to those that seek adventure.Editing
I wanted to really help highlight the distinctly green terrain, and used a color brightener to help emphasize the colors to a place where the most consistently were in real life.In my camera bag
As a videographer and photographer, I try to carry lenses that will function in both capacities. I run everything off of the Sony a7sii body, and swap between my 28-135 f/4 (big daddy lens) and a 70-200 f/2.8 (both Sony). Of course, I've got a range of audio equipment that I keep on me as well, but mostly stick to my Zoom H6, Sennheiser Wireless Lav, and Rode NTG4+ Shotgun Mic.Feedback
Look for those "in between" moments that often go unnoticed. Had I taken the photo 2 minutes earlier, there would have been no fog to speak of. Two minutes later, and the entire forest would have been consumed with fog. This photo captures my attention because of the dissonance between the two. It's a photo that tells a story, as we think of the transition that is taking place in the scene.
