Location
The photo was taken at an abandoned recreation home of the former GDR (German Democratic Republic). After the German reunification and the downfall of the GDR, there were apparently only few tries to revive the location. Today, it has become an amazing biotope where fern and moss are growing everywhere. Especially in the room I took the photo, nature created its own art and I had to walk across an impressive moss carpet.Time
I remember the day I took the photo as a pretty cold day in January. After a several hours drive I finally arrived at the location and was luckily enough to find an entrance.Lighting
Normally the light in winter isn´t the best. Especially shooting at abandoned places, which are usually pretty dark every time of the year. Yet, I was lucky enough, to catch as much light as possible. Moreover, I think, the conditions that day fit the place perfectly.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Nikon D 90, Tamron SP 10-24MM F/3.5-4.5 Di II and of course with the help of a tripod, which is my constant companion.Inspiration
First of all, the natural decay amazed me the most as well as the colours and structures created by it. Moreover, being at an abandoned place is always somehow inspiring in general, as the atmosphere on its own really stimulates the imagination.Editing
I did only a little post-processing like sharpening and contrast adjustment. In my camera bag
Among my camera (still a Nikon D90), I have several lenses for different situations in my camera bag. Normally, my wide angle lense (Tamron SP 10-24MM F/3.5-4.5 Di II), a 35mm lense (Nikkor), as well as the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm/3,5-5,6G ED VR. Additonally, I carry always several torches, remote releases, SD cards and a filter mask in my bag.Feedback
I think the best advice is always to take your time and trying to let the atmosphere of the place work its magic. Last but not least, never go without (a stable) tripod.
