Location
I took this photo not far from Zermatt, Switzerland. It was a little body of water just a little further from the Riffelsee.Time
It was early evening, about 19:00.Lighting
I wanted to get the sun reflecting off the water so I choose early evening. This provided a good amount of light without having to change too many settingsEquipment
I use a Canon 70D, with an EF-S 18-135 3.5-5.6 lens ( my usual EF-S 18-200 had recently given up the ghost). I also used my Rollei C5i tripod.Inspiration
I had seen a few photos with the Matterhorn reflecting off the Riffelsee, and thought wow, this could be a perfect way to show the beautiful country that I am living in with my family and friends around the world.Editing
I am not a great believer in post-processing, however I started using Adobe Lightroom to deal with a few blemishes that I found my mirror, it is also good with dealing with far away birds and insects that get into the frame. I also use it to get what I believe the lighting was at the time I took the photo, just to make it stand out a bitIn my camera bag
I have a few things in my bag. My trusty Canon 70D, with a Canon EF-S 18-200mm, a Canon EF-S 50mm, a Sigma 100-500mm, a Canon 430 ex Speedlite, my iPad (wireless link to the camera to view the image better than the camera screen), and my tripod wherever I go. I also take my Macbook Pro to make the Lightroom adjustments and upload them to Viewbug. I use a Tamrac Corona 26 Camera bag.Feedback
Patience.... Find a good location and wait it out. Take a few shots to make sure that everything works, and yours settings are where you want them. For this particular shot, people were coming and going, and they were getting in the way of the shot, but most of them were tourists, on a schedule, so they took their shots and went on their way. Generally if you get there early enough and get set up, they tend to stay out of the way.
