This photo was taken i an old hotel in my hometown in Western Australia. I had driven past the window many times ad eventually went and asked permission to use it, they were more than happy to allow me to.Time
This was shot at 4.17pm in winter so the sun was a bit lower and softer which helped not to totally blow out the light coming through the window.Lighting
I wanted the strong contrast of light and shadows so did not use any artificial light. I wanted just the front of her face illuminated.Equipment
I shot this on my Canon 6D with my canon 85mm 1.8 lensInspiration
I had driven past the window many times and knew I wanted to shoot it, I thought my daughter dressed like a little ballerina, looking elegant would be a perfect match. I was pleased when the image not only lived up to the image in my head but also exceeded it.Editing
Yes, the RAW file was processed in lightroom then taken into photoshop some distracting objects removed (lounge chair, stairs balustrade) and the background darken to really show off my daughter and the window. In my camera bag
I have a large lowpro bag which normally holds my Canon 6D and my two favorite lenses, the sigma 35mm 1.4 art and my Canon 135mm 2L, I may also have my Canon 15mm 2.8 as I love playing with the fisheye. I also have a Canon 430 exiii flash. I always keep spare rechargeable batteries, spare memory cards, spare camera battery, bubbles and jelly beansFeedback
If you see a beautiful window or another part of a building you would love to shoot in just ask, you never know they may say yes. If you never ask you never get the opportunity to bring your idea to life.
