Our Family went camping and I took my 8yr old daughter out for a few photos for a project I have in mind. She was excited over the amount of acorns everywhere and decided to collect some to take them home for the squirrels since we don't have nearly as many acorns around our house. I named her 'My Acorn Thief' and told she'd better watch out for the 'local' squirrels so they don't catch her stealing their acorns! I love how 'worry' is written all over her face.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during our family vacation in the Chippewa Area of Wisconsin.

Time

sometime in the early evening, just before sunset

Lighting

no light modifiers were used

Equipment

This was just me and my camera, Canon 5D.

Inspiration

While I was out 'collecting' photos for a future project, my daughter just loved all the acorns and started picking them up. I teased her that the local squirrels aren't going to be real happy with her. So she played along and looked around, all worried about getting caught.

Editing

converted to B&W using Photoshop, some dodging and burning

In my camera bag

depends on what bag I have along. When I travel light it's just my Canon Rebel Ti3.

Feedback

Just be on the lookout for light and shadows, shapes that compliment your subject, or strong contrasts. Use different angles - get down or up high. Know your camera first and then experiment with different settings and different lenses.
