Behind The Lens

Location

In a suburban city of Calcutta, namely Kalyani. India.

Time

Around 9 in the morning I remember. The picture was taken by a film camera at that time so no EXIF data available.

Lighting

Just ambient light.

Equipment

Nikon F-55, Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6G lens, Fuji-400 film, no flash, handheld.

Inspiration

That was the last shot in my roll. I was about to go to the agency to wash the film. So I thought why should I destroy 1 shot. So I went to our garden where this lady was weeding, I told her that I want to take her photo. She agreed with a smile and her hand reached her head to remove her head-cover, she did not want a photo without her beautiful hair I guess. But that was the perfect pose for me. I wanted her pic in that way. Sanki, rest in peace is not with us anymore. She kept our garden clean for 28 long years. Though she took it home when I presented her the photo after getting framed it by the agency she looked at it only once and never liked it.

Editing

This portrait is not even cropped. Only very little color correction has been done in Photoshop after scanning.

In my camera bag

At present I have Nikon D5100 body, nikkor 18-55mm and nikkor 55=200mm

Feedback

Don't take the picture if you think the light is not perfect for the picture you want. DON'T PUSH THE SHUTTER if it's not good light.
