This photo was taken in twycross zoo, I am a self taught young photographer (this picture was taken when I was 16!), my dslr with its large lens was not successful at due to the wire mesh between me and the lion. So I used my compact camera, stuck the lens through the mesh and waited for the male to walk behind the female to provide a nice backdrop and to hide the unsightly wire mesh behind her.Time
This was one of the last photo's i took that day it was just after feeding time(the only time i saw the big beasts move!) must have been about 18 00.Lighting
To be honest i was focusing more on the composition and waiting for the right moment to shoot, and at the same time looking out for the zoo staff because i had stuck my lens through the wire fence which i am sure is not allowed!! When i checked the picture that night I was delighted with golden tones which really complemented the lioness. Right place at the right time I suppose!Equipment
This was taken with my compact which hardly gets used but is always handy, its a Panasonic Lumix TZ20, no other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was in the zoo with the family during the summer holidays, really loved the expression on the lionesses face, that is what I was trying to capture.Editing
Besides for a very small cropping, this image is as it was when taken on camera. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Nikon D7000 or Sony nex 5D with 16mm and 18-55mm lens (usually throw in a compact as well). i don't always take my tripod, it depends how far i will be walking and what i will be shooting.Feedback
As I said before, i am still young and relatively inexperienced. The key for me, is patience and to keep learning, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!!!
