Location
This photo was taken at the Denver Zoo. The elephant was standing in the indoor enclosure where the lighting is generally low.Time
I usually try to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat.Lighting
The lighting was low in the indoor enclosure which made the background nice and dark.Equipment
I usually shoot with a Nikon D5300. I rarely use a tripod as I do not like lugging it around and no flash was used for this shot.Inspiration
Elephants are beautiful and majestic animals. That is reason enough for me to take photographs of them.Editing
I helped make the background darker and added a gradient from the bottom to make the Elephant seem like it is coming out of the darkness. In my camera bag
I carry as little as I can get away with. My camera is a Nikon D5300, coupled with a 18-140mm, 35mm, and 50mm prime lens. I believe in keeping things simple as with more equipment it becomes a challenge in carrying and also choosing what to use.Feedback
My main advice is to take lots of shots. The more shots you take, the more chance you have of getting that one great photo.
