One little grass seed had all the perseverance in the world, and managed to overcome.
I love the contrast between light and dark in this photo, and how it goes well with the symbolism of overcoming hardships to become what you are meant to be, or to discover your true purpose.
The light, being the sun, is the grass seed's reward for overcoming it's difficult struggle with the dark, being the shadow and the darkness under the bricks.

I took this photo on the Stellenbosch University campus in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It was a beautiful day and I was waiting around and doing what makes me happy - taking photographs!Time
It was mid-morning, between 10 and 12. The sun was just beginning to come over the tops of the trees, providing a mixture of gorgeous morning-light and bright, hot, afternoon sun.Lighting
The one thought in my mind when planning this shot was to make sure I knew exactly where the sun was and from which angle the sun and shadow best illuminated the focus of the photo.Equipment
I am unemployed, and still saving for equipment - so this photo was taken with my phone's camera. I am blessed to at least have a phone with a good camera! The angle and lighting made up for my lack of equipment, I think.Inspiration
I have been through so much in my short life - so many struggles and dark times - and seeing this little tuft of grass forcing its way up through the paving reminded me of just how far I've come and how strong all the struggles have made me. It was a moment of clarity and a beautiful day combined that inspired me to take this photo - and I am so grateful that I did!Editing
For this shot the only post-processing I did was to auto-adjust the balance and light contrast. My camera tends to over-expose the direct sunlight and for this shot I wanted more of a balance between light and dark.In my camera bag
I have yet to build up my photography bag! I am still saving up; but fortunately sometimes I am able to borrow equipment from a friend or from my cousin, when they are willing. I am still an amateur so I am still learning what all the equipment does.Feedback
Keep your eyes and mind open. There was so much beauty around me on the day I took this photo, but if i had not been looking down at my feet, and seen this tiny tuft of grass, and noticed the sun illuminating every blade, this photo would never have come into existence. Trust your instincts, and don't be afraid! there I was, lying on my stomach on the ground in public, surrounded by people, looking like a fool; but it is all worth it for the end result. If your instinct tells you that your angle needs to be as low as possible then don's be afraid to get down and dirty!
