Behind The Lens

Location

I took this image at my sisters house in the garden. The puppies were walking all over the lawn and I wanted a picture were I could feature all of them. So I went inside, to the kitchen and found a basket to contain the little rascals.

Time

It was late in the afternoon, towards the end of summer. The 28th of May at 16; 20 h in the afternoon.

Lighting

There was lovely soft light , but it was changing fast as autumn has already began and the sun was setting a little earlier. I took the basket with pups and placed them on the porch as, the grass didn't provide the same amount of stability

Equipment

At that stage I used my Canon 700D, no tri- pot and my 90mm lens.

Inspiration

You will always find me close to animals, nature and children. Those are the things that matter to me. My photography is inspired by life. These pups were a form of new life, and its many forms. It was interesting to see that as little as they were, at that stage, each puppy already had his own personality. Some were shy and others were more inquisitive.

Editing

Yes I always do post processing. I use Photo shop and Light room.

In my camera bag

I shoot with a Canon 6D . I love my Tamron 90 mm macro lens, Tamron 70-200mm and Canon 50mm prime. The prime is tack sharp and when I take pictures of animals, they don't find the lens intimidating. The Tamron 90 mm is my go to lens for macro and close-up work. The 70- 200mm is well suited for landscape and close-up or portrait work .My wide angle (15-35 mm Tamron.) is usually used for landscape and wedding shot. I use the Canon 85mm, and Canon 24-70mm lens for portraits. as . My tri-pot is a Manfrotto and it is ancient at this stage, but it still working fine. Lenses and camera gear are like potato chips you can never have enough. As soon as you tick one off your wish list another wish pops up and you start saving again...

Feedback

When shooting animals especially pets, be relaxed and enjoy yourself. Use a fast shutter speed and shallow depth of field. Interact with the pets and let them have fun. You are just an observer, pets are like kids, they do what they like, and you can't force a specific pose or style on to them. The more freedom the have the better they will perform. If they don't have any inhibitions they will be natural . That way you will get natural pictures. Be patient, and be ready to take amazing shots.
