Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo outside of my house in New Jersey around Thanksgiving! It was really nice outside that day and Teddy was ready for some photos with my new camera!

Time

My cousins and I took Teddy outside in the mid afternoon on Thanksgiving because it was really warm for the first time in forever. I wanted to try out my camera and take some photos of Teddy with his little Santa outfit on. He sat there, smiled for the camera, and it turned out to be a great photo!

Lighting

This photo was taken outside and without a flash, so it was all natural light. The sun wasn't really shining down on Teddy so the photo came out better and didn't have any haziness.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Nikon D330 camera using a 18-55 mm lens. I tend to shoot with no flash on.

Inspiration

My cousins always put something cute on Teddy, the dog pictured, when they come over for the holidays! Since it was around Thanksgiving, they had on a little Santa outfit and I thought it would be adorable to take a photo of him.

Editing

For this photo, I used Adobe Lightroom to help with exposure and contrast. I did not want the photo to be too bright, but then I also wanted Teddy's eyes to be seen since they were really hiding with his black and gray hair all around.

In my camera bag

I don't have much yet besides my Nikon D3300 body and the two lenses. I have a 18-55 mm and 55-300 mm. I got the 55-300mm lens so I could take photos of objects/people that were further away. This has helped A LOT with my photos and I'm loving it!

Feedback

When capturing photos of dogs, I tend to get a treat or have someone hold the treat behind me. It helps with where the dog is looking, which is what we did with Teddy in this photo. If dogs enjoy getting dressed up as well, I say go for it! If not, you can still get some awesome photos of dogs regardless!
