Location
My family lives in the Texas Hill Country so we commonly have deer roaming in our yard. This one came right up to me and ate out of my hand.Time
This was taken about noon, underneath the shade of my porch.Lighting
The sun has been one of my best friends in photography. I am a huge fan of natural lighting and that's all there was here!Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel XSI, 450D. No flash or tripod.Inspiration
I was originally outside trying to take pictures of the baby deer who were newly born but this particular mother came up to me and allowed me to get very close so I didn't even have to use my zoom.Editing
All I did to the photo after it was taken was turn it black and white in Photoshop and mess around a little bit with the brightness! In my camera bag
To be honest, I usually just carry my camera around with me by itself. It allows me to see something I like without having to mess around with other equipment. Not for everyone, but this works for me.Feedback
In my opinion, the key to taking photos of animals is to be very still. This is important in photography in general but especially with animals. If they don't see you as a threat they'll often just walk right up to you allowing you to photograph them.
