Location
This was taken between Oso, WA, and Lake Cavanaugh, WA on a dirt road that resembles a mini mountain pass.Time
This was taken at in the mid-afternoon. My family and I were fishing at Fortson Mill Pond #4 closer to Darrington and had decided to jump over to Lake Cavanaugh to try for some cutthroat trout before we were out of light. (We we're successful)Lighting
I attribute the light in this piece to luck. It was gorgeous and this little pygmy owl picked a tree branch with perfect light to it and an approach across a hillside that let me get within minimum focal distance for my 50mm (only a few feet).Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D3200. I was using a Sigma 70-300mm and Nikon 50mm 1.8. I can't remember which one this particular shot used so I will have to refer you to the info provided with the metadata.Inspiration
My mom passed from colon cancer in 2014. We birded together for a large portion of our adult lives together and now when I look through a lens, my Mom is doing the same to my left or right in my mind just like she always did. It has been wonderful therapy after losing my best friend and without her this photo never would have happened.Editing
This was a simple crop and sharpen with some slight tweaking to the levels for black and white. In my camera bag
Nikon D3200, Sigma 70-300, Nikon 18-55mm kit lens. (I've since had to pawn everything else for rent or food)Feedback
Be patient, be quiet, and show absolute respect for nature, she will return the favor!
