The Foothills Parkway in Tennessee was started in 1944. If it is ever completed, it will span 71 miles. Currently only about 1-3 of that is complete-open to the public. Construction is underway to open another segment in 2017 that will bring up to 50% accessible. My sister and I had to pleasure to drive a small segment (just under 6 miles) accessed from I-40 (exit 443) in September 2012. It is very beautiful. I hope they will complete the project in my lifetime, as I would love to see it in its entirety someday
