Location
This is the Horseshoe Bend near Page, AZ . It is arguably one of the most photographed location in that region. Located on the Highway 89 about a mile or so from PageTime
This was taken during a Sunset in Summer. It was a partially Cloudy day when the Sun peeked out just before setting behind the Glen CanyonsLighting
Lighting around this time of the day is perhaps always one of the best suited for any kind of Photography. In This case, there couldn't have been a better time. Since the Viewpoint is in the East , we get this shot of the Sun setting behind it. If we could expose the Darker part of the Canyon a little bit, we'll have a great shot like this one in hand!Equipment
This one was Shot with a Nikon D7100 with a Tokina 11-16 mounted on it. Here are some details: > The focal length was set to 13 for a wider angle > A relatively high ISO of 640 was set to get a better exposure on the darker area of the image > Since the shot was taken on a Tripod, the Shutter speed was set to 1/20 > The higher ISO with a lower shutter speed allowed me to set the Aperture to 1/18 for a greater Depth of Field > an Exposure compensation of -3 or higher would also help control the exposure in the highlightsInspiration
The Scene itself is more than enough to inspire Photography. This is a treasure trove for all aspiring Nature and Landscape photographers. I've been to this place for quite a few times and still yearn to go back and keep coming back!Editing
I'm not a fan of heavy Post-processing so did some very basic stuff on the RAW image in Adobe Lightroom First, I worked on the Shadow and Highlight portions to bring out the Darker portions of the image and reduce the Glare of the Sun Then i increased the contrast and color a little bit Finally i finished off with some sharpness and Noise Removal ( because of the high ISO)In my camera bag
The Camera ( now i use a Nikon D750) with a travel lense ( i use the 24-120 mm) . Apart from this i carry two other lenses, the Tokina 11-16mm(this Image was shot with it) and another Nikon 70-300 I also have a Nikon SB600 Flash Unit which i usually use for Portraiture, some filters ( UV, CPL, and Macro - 1x,2x,6x and 10x diopters), a Lense Pen , some microfiber cloths, Two spare batteries and a remote shutter I usually have my Tripod in nearby and carry it whenever i go for a hikeFeedback
A word of caution : You do need to Pick your spot carefully. This is a very risky terrain and i had to set my tripod right on the edge of the cliff. Be very careful or there's a sheer 900 feet drop waiting for you! I would suggest HDR here and like to try out myself given a chance. At the time i took this shot, i wasn't much into HDR and am still learning the technique. I feel it would yield amazing results here! So folks, if you're ever in the region, DO NOT miss this marvel! Even if you're not a photographer this is one awesome sight!
