Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken during my trip to St. Augustine. Before climbing up the lighthouse, I stood at the bottom and took the shot.

Time

We were there in the early afternoon, and thankfully the lighting inside was good.

Lighting

Natural light is your best friend. Good weather is the key if you plan on taking photos of lighthouse interiors.

Equipment

My Canon PowerShot

Inspiration

I had been to the lighthouse down in Key West, and this one in St. Augustine is bigger and taller. I also loved the contrast of the black and white metalwork spiraling up to the top.

Editing

Very minimal editing was done using Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Camera, spare batteries, sketch pad, headphones.

Feedback

It’s tricky getting a shot in enclosed spaces like this, so try to go when the sun is out. The natural light helps, and you don’t need to use a flash or spend as much time editing.
