Location
I took it just shy of Waxholm in Sweden a spring day 2014 in one pasture there is this amazing collection of Oaks, Birch and Beech trees. This is one of them..Time
It was taken in the middle of the day closer to lunch than anything else.Lighting
I think that viewing this image, of the lonely naked tree really pops out in black and white. The true colors that day were a pale blue sky, and a lot of dry yellow grass. There was so much more drama that lay hidden in the image waiting to be told.Equipment
Actually this is taken with my darn iPhone, I usually scout locations with my mobile camera but in this case I never got round to use my real camera.Inspiration
The angle, the light, the contrasts between the tree and sky all worked together to inspire my curiosity in what more it would say.Editing
Yes, I tweaked the black and white settings a bit to increase the contrast, darkened the edges a bit to draw the attention a bit more into the center of the image. In my camera bag
I am a Nikon buff and have been for the last 25 years. So a Nikon D800 with a battery grip, an old 35-17mm f2.8 and equally old 80-200 f2.8 And a very good 50mm f1.8 and the last objective is the oldest of them all 70-35 f2 with a tiny bit of macro reach. I have no external flash, but an Manfrotto tripod or a monopod always comes with me. In addition to the camera stuff my Mac Air tends to come along. I sometimes also remember to use my colorchecker passport. Then I usually bring with me some snacks, umbrellas, raingear, warm clothes, drinks and whatnots..Feedback
Keep you eyes open, try finding spots that you like and visit them at all hours to get a feel for how the light plays with the spot. I have always liked sunshine an clear skies, now I often do not bother if the sky have no clouds, I find that they bring so much more depth and sometimes drama to an image. My next advice for myself is to find motives in rain and fog, I have been there but that was a long time ago.
