Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot at my town's salt lake in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Time

It was in the afternoon. There wasn't that much sun that day. It was cloudy. I went to the salt lake because there are a lot of cats there, but this one seemed very friendly and was the only one that came this close to me!

Lighting

Natural lighting came and fixed everything for me, I didn't have to do anything.

Equipment

This was shot from a Canon EOS 50D. Lens Canon EF 85mm f1/2. No tripod or flash.

Inspiration

This was the purpose of my salt lake excursion. The stray cats there have amazing fur and eye color. Cats are unpredictable and you can really gets some nice shots on them.

Editing

I did some post processing in Photoshop Lightroom. Not that much because this was before I learned to shoot RAW. I just wanted to give it kind of an HDR feel. But I also didn't want to overdo it.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon EOS 50D, my standard Canon 85mm 1/2f lens. My tripod and flash are always with me aswell.

Feedback

Animal photography is unpredictable as I've said, you need to pack according to the situation and most of all you have to be patient. Animal photography is also very specific, there is no pattern to follow. Just be there, be patient and try a lot of shots, try on every shot to see the emotion of your subject and you'll have your "money" shot.
