Got up early for this opportune snap of the rail bridge. A few minutes later and the sun would have burnt away the early morning background. It is a bit stretched but this helps to convey the majestic engineering from the 19th century..

BEAUTIFUL ENGINEERING
Over-engineered perhaps but it has become both the beauty and the beast. The Forth Rail Bridge straddles the River Forth in all its beauty on a steamy July morning.

Location
This is an early summer's morning in South Queensferry, Scotland on my way to work.Time
I think it was around 5:15am with the heat of the day just starting up and creating that fuzzy chunk between the sea and land. It was a perfect backdrop to the iconic Forth Rail Bridge now a World Heritage site.Lighting
This is a route I take to work each weekday and at different times of the year it will be framed differently with light seeping from different directions and glowing in different colours. At night it is lit up artificially and this is the most common time that the bridge is snapped revealing the deep red colour of the iron bridge against the dark blue sky.Equipment
This is a painful part. I have a wide range of equipment that probably fits somewhere in the amateur/pro level. However, on the day I did not have any equipment with me so I had to resort to my phone. Quality is pretty poor when blown up but I am still chuffed that I managed to capture a very picturesque scene.Inspiration
The Rail Bridge is a big tourist attraction and very easy to photograph. Currently awaiting a visit from the steam trains (Flying Scotsman) to capture a combination of brilliant engineering with what is probably the most famous steam train in the world. Either that or one of the big cruise ships that visits regularly.Editing
Fairly minimal post processing. Had to take out some flare. In my camera bag
My equipment includes a variety of Canon L lenses and 3 Canon DSLRs. Cameras are a shade out of date now. Is there anything that loses value more quickly than a DSLR other than perhaps my golf clubs. Would be great if Canon offered trade-in and then recycled the equipment to schools around the world. I should add that I have a very large bag from one of the better manufacturers. However, once all loaded up, my legs start to bend. Worse than doing army cross country training. I have therefore resorted to using a more compact bag with a couple of lenses. Usually 70-200 plus any other that might be useful.Feedback
OK. The subject more or less presents itself as a gift to photographers. So, the big thing that I bring is the opportunity. That means getting up very early or staying up very late and seeking out something different that would not be seen at any other time of the day/year. This probably applies to any photograph. Another useful thing is to carry some basic equipment with you at all times even if it isn't the most up to date gear.
