Location
Maroon Bells, Aspen, Colorado, USATime
It was taken during golden hour.Lighting
Normally Maroon Bells is best at Sunrise, we had plans for the same but was not able to make it. So we decided to come back during sunset hoping for some colors and got wonderful sunset effects. We were kind of lucky to have a perfect sunset.Equipment
Camera - Canon 7D MK II Lens - Canon 10-22 f3.5 -4.5 USM at 10mm Tirpod - Manfrotto 055XPRO B No flash fired.Inspiration
A Colorado trip along the country roads of US is special and Maroon Bells is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. Being a John Denver Fan I have a default affection for ASPEN and the songs kind of flows with the area. Always wanted to have a decent frame for years to come.Editing
The photo is a result of exposure blending. I used an underexposed photo to get the colors in the sky and the lake, and used a slight overexposed photo to get details in the mountains and foreground. Did exposure blending in Photoshop CC, by using luminosity mask techniques. I did the selection based on shadows and highlights. After the blending, I bumped up the yellow and greens to get a bit more saturation. In my camera bag
I carry 2 bodies, with a wide angle, general purpose and medium telephoto with set of filters. Occasionally I will be having my 100-400 for birding. I would have the medium telephoto with one body and wide angle with the other. Wide angle is my go to lens normally, but the medium telephoto does give good results in landscapes.Feedback
The location, a bit of prior knowledge (GOOGLE) helps , and luck plays a big role. I think there are other people who could have justified the scene even more.I tried my best. For me its about enjoying the scene, at times we may not have the right equipment with us for the moment and we get to much caught up to create the picture that we actually do not enjoy the moment. First and foremost enjoy the moment and the rest will be fine.
