Location
I travelled five hours from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to Lafontaine, Ontario with my family. We attended Le Festival Du Loup which is a festival of the howling of the wolf. Lafontaine was settled by French fur traders in the 1600s and an aggressive wolf terrorized the community. It is located on the southern tip of Georgian Bay. This piece of old dried up wood was on a piece of property where people were selling t-shirts and tickets for the festival. I saw the grain and it’s natural patterns running through it , and thought it would make a great subject. I also thought because of the combination of the texture and patterns, it would look great in black and white. I thought to myself, if someone saw this photo, could they almost touch& feel the grain and textures in the wood? That is what I was trying to do with this image. We returned home after four days and I uploaded the photograph to my laptop. I ifed a program called cyberlink photo editor which has interesting features for editing photographs. I changed the image to monochrome and made adjustments. The camera I was using is an Olympus SP590UZ. The ISO was 64. Shutter speed was 1/100 sec, and aperture was f:/4. ITime

The image was taken under existing daylight.Equipment
I used the Olympus SP590UZ to take the photograph hand held.Inspiration
I saw the subject on the grass separating two pieces of property and thought it was a great interesting subject.Editing
I used a photograph imaging software called Cyberlink PhotoDirector. I changed the image from color to monochrome. I used sliding bars in the program to adjust lights, darks, contrast to exaggerate some of the natural light to have the textures, blacks and whites to show the beauty & detail of the grain and lines. In my camera bag
For this image it was just the Olympus SP590UZ. I replaced the camera with a Nikon D3400 in February 2017. With the Nikon I carry the 18-55 Nikkor 3.5-5.6G VR, AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6 G VR, the Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1.8G fixed prime, Yongnuo TTL YN622N-TX Flash Controljer & Reciever, two Yongnuo YN685 wireless TTL Speedlites, ML-L3 Nikon Remote, and carry a Fotopro C401 Tripod When needed.Feedback
Just watch the natural light around you. The image was taken in the late part of the afternoon when the sun was shining from the west toward the subject. I wanted that harsher light because the details didn’t stand out in the subject in the morning.
